HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM SCH! 2009 was an outstanding year for us - two SCH beers moved on to the 2nd Round of the National Homebrew Competition, our events schedule was full, and included a tasty Group Brewed Roggenbier (German Rye Beer), a number of field trips (Craft Ale House, Canal Street Pub, Stoudt's Oktoberfest), and a very successful competition that yielded 70% more entries over our inaugural competition. We hope that 2010 will see more of the same!
SCH is committed to sharing the pleasures of homebrewing with brewers and non-brewers alike. For brewers, we offer a collection of battle-tested and award-winning recipes (extract and all-grain), tasting and evaluation by BJCP-approved judges, brewing and beer education, and social events for brewers and families alike. For non-brewers, we offer all of that in a slightly more tipsy state as you become unofficial “tasters” for the homebrewed awesomeness produced by our members. Our monthly meetings are held at the General Lafayette Inn & Brewery on the third Thursday of every month, and serve as a great night out in addition to being educational and entertaining.
For the competitive, we host an annual competition (Stoney Creek Homebrewers Amateur Brewing Championship), administer the Eastern Pa. Homebrewer of the Year (EPHY) competition, and are active participants in AHA Club-Only Competitions. For those in it for the artistic and culinary adventure, our specialty brewers have produced a number of award-winning concoctions (Peppermint Stout or Triple Berry Bock, anyone?), and are on hand to offer advice on how to make that Taco Vienna Lager you dream about…
Yes, there’s something for everyone in SCH. Members enjoy benefits unique to our club, and we welcome inquiries at any time. Contact us at schomebrewers@gmail.com for more information, and remember, “there can’t be good living where there isn’t good drinking” (Benjamin Franklin)!
